Airports

AirportsThe Scotland major airports are in Glasgow and Edinburgh, but not in the too close to the city. There are also airports at Inverness, Aberdeen and Prestwick. The busiest airport in Scotland is Edinburgh where around nine million passengers pass through.

Edinburgh has direct flight connections to most of the major cities of Europe as well as services to the United States. The UK domestic routes go to London, Bristol and Belfast Glasgow is the second busiest airport. It too has direct connects throughout Europe, and direct flights to Canada and the US.

Located about 30 miles from Glasgow is Prestwick Airport. This has become the domain of the low cost carriers, although they also operate out of Edinburgh. Routes across Europe make this a busy, if slightly inconvenient airport .Some of the eastern European locations such as Riga and Warsaw are connected directly with Prestwick.

Iam-scotland.org.uk has information about the various Scotland major airports and have the routes available both within the UK and internationally. London is well served from Inverness as well as from the capital and Glasgow. There are flights from the Inverness to Luton, Stansted and Gatwick as well as Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol.

The Channel Islands are also connected directly to Inverness. The airport is also one of the Highlands and Islands Airport (HIA). There is plenty of destination information for air travel within the UK and internationally from Scotland at iam-scotland.org.uk. These are the four Scotland major airports, but there is a number of smaller location serving the islands, particularly Kirkwall in the Orkney islands.
